rice & beans
rice and beans is named after gallopinto, a traditional Central American dish you can have for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Like the dish, this monthly morning radio show is meant to accompany you through the day, offering comfort and connection.
With nostalgic sounds and musical storytelling, the show highlights migrant selectors based in Germany, exploring memory, identity, and belonging.
Hosted by azulado, co-founder of Gatxs and organizer based in Leipzig.
About this Episode
Lots of drone, lots of ambient, and everything in between. The show is built slowly. Harp ripples next to guitar. Orchestral passages slide into boleros. Salsa shows up unannounced. Somehow it all fits: electronic music brushing up against organic sounds from all over the globe. Ivonne León is an architect and visual artist from Bogotá, now based in Berlin. She picks tracks the way she thinks about space. Here's how she puts it: "I'm Ivonne León, architect and spatial & visual creator based in Berlin, originally from Bogotá, Colombia. My practice moves between space, visual composition, and sonic selection — all of them ways to create sensitive atmospheres and experiences tied to memory, rhythm, and emotion. Music is essential to my life and my creative process. It's been a refuge. A trigger for memory. It connects me to movement, transformation, and the energies that have marked my path." So that's the show. Selections that feel like memories. Music that crosses borders. No rush. Just a morning spent listening.
