Objet Personnel aims to contextualize emotions and meanings attached to objects in the material world through sonic interpretation via musical arrangement. An object serves as an occasion as well as a basis for most personal expression, with the sonic product being strictly topical to the artist's perception of their own chosen object.
About this Episode
This mix combines different (percussion heavy) music I’ve discovered and grown to appreciate and love over the past eight years - music that has broaden my perception. Sometimes in an instant, sometimes I had to revisit years later to find what then had caught my attention. In this case, something led me back to these tracks, so there must have been something there from the beginning. While compiling this selection I was able to rediscover and hear these compositions like I’ve never heard them before. Through re-contextualisation and a lot of parallel playing tracks, the different layers in each track and the layers of the mix form something unexpected, something new. Meandering between texture and percussion-heavy tracks, this selection is visually and physically represented by the percussion instrument Waldteufel. A Waldteufel is a friction percussion instrument. Unlike a drum or vibraphone, it’s difficult to play with precision. When more than two Waldteufel play simultaneously, they form a texture cloud, a swarm with no defined direction. That sonic quality runs throughout this mix. The notion of the Waldteufel is present in the tracks with heavy use of percussion instruments. It’s reference to textures and swarms can be found in many tracks as well
