Institut fuer Zukunft
Closed since 2025, the IfZ was a prominent techno club in Leipzig, renowned for its commitment to progressive politics and cultural responsibility. Established in 2014, IfZ was not merely a venue for electronic music but also a platform for political engagement and social discourse. It operated as a grassroots organization, advocating for inclusivity, equality, and safer clubbing experiences. The club was collectively managed, emphasizing democratic decision-making processes and fostering a community-oriented atmosphere.
IfZ was instrumental in promoting diversity within the club scene, actively working to increase the visibility of underrepresented groups. The club implemented policies to ensure safer spaces and engaged in continuous dialogue with the community to address issues of discrimination and inclusivity. More than just a club, IfZ set a role model for open political discussion within nightlife and culture, using its platform to challenge societal norms and advocate for progressive change.
Despite its cultural significance, IfZ faced financial challenges exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, inflation, and rising operational costs. These difficulties led to the announcement of its closure at the end of 2024, marking a significant loss for Leipzig's cultural landscape after finally closing with a last 3-day New Years dance.
IfZ was a beacon of progressive culture, political engagement, and communal solidarity. In it's late years Callshop Radio joined the enormous complex with it's local studio running live from Kolrabizirkus for a long period, becoming part of the legacy IFZ left behind.
