rice & beans

rice and beans is named after gallopinto, a traditional Central American dish you can have for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Like the dish, this monthly morning radio show is meant to accompany you through the day, offering comfort and connection.

With nostalgic sounds and musical storytelling, the show highlights migrant selectors based in Germany, exploring memory, identity, and belonging.

Hosted by azulado, co-founder of Gatxs and organizer based in Leipzig.

About this Episode

Aida was born on a small island, the child of a Spanish father and an Egyptian-Palestinian mother. From that blend of roots emerges a musical landscape with blurred borders—one they share with us today: the music that filled that little house in the middle of the Atlantic, in the Canary Islands.

From Arabic pop to the sounds of La Movida Madrileña, from flamenco to West African gems, all the way through Canarian protest music.
